This is a simple tech blog. I am mostly interested in application security, web, technologies... but every time I can, I try to play with some other field I like such as data-mining, graph theory, compilers, languages, etc..
Marcin just told me about that stupid CAPTCHA
from the rapidshare website. Even if I think this is made explicitly to annoy people (this CAPTCHA
is used only for free accounts) this is just stupid.
Can you really tell which letter has cat or not? I'm sorry but I can't!
I don't get it: why would this take more than one try? *All* the letters have the cat symbol -- the captcha is just confirming that you can read (and understand) the instructions. Am I missing something?
Well, I tried and it didn't work even though I only enter a letter in the given range. So I guess four of all the letters is not working.
For instance, I doubt that on the first letter, there is a cat.
Comments
The first time I saw this captcha, it took me 5 tries to solve it.
After about 40 to 50 times, I now have it down to an "almost exact" science, failing only about 10% of the time.
I think it's smart to have captchas that can only be solved by people with above-average intelligence.

This is indeed a foolish step by rapidshare...seems to be very awkward
The key is "below"
GG8E have the cat below the letter
R8 have the cat above.
Comments 2 & 5 clearly show how bad the CAPTCHAs are, the correct code is GRE8, the other characters have other animals.
I hate captcha :(
i have to do it everytime i post something on myspace or youtube or anything
4 Letters..LETTERS..the other 2 are numbers..and they dont even have cats..
